
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assured Nigerians in his 65th Independence Day speech on Wednesday that the country’s most difficult economic period is over. He said the ongoing reforms have achieved fruitful results and called on citizens to remain patient and hopeful.

- Economic Growth
Tinubu announced that Nigeria’s economy is on the road to recovery, with GDP growing by 4.23% in the second quarter of 2025 and inflation falling to 20.12%, the lowest in three years. - Strong reserve
The country’s external reserves climbed to $42.03 billion, the highest since 2019, while trade surpluses are now consistent, reflecting increased investor confidence. - Financial stability
Nigeria’s debt-to-income ratio has dropped from 97% in 2022 to less than 50%, giving the government more room to invest in key sectors. - Oil and Energy Sector
Crude oil production increased to 1.68 million barrels per day, while domestic gasoline refining recovered forty years later, thus improving energy security. - Infrastructure Drivers
Major projects such as the Lagos-Calabal Coastal Highway and the Kano-Maladi Railway Line are underway and are expected to improve connectivity, work and trade. - Social investment
More than $330 billion has been distributed to 8 million vulnerable families, as well as initiatives such as youth and credibility groups for young Nigerians. - Student Loans
The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (Nelfund) has supported more than 510,000 students, with nearly $100 billion in payments. - Safety benefits
Tinubu said security forces are taking back territory from terrorists and bandits so that displaced people can return to their homes. - Youth Authorization
The President reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians through innovation funds, student loans and creative industry support. - Unity and Nation
Tinubu urges Nigerians to embrace patriotism, support local industries, pay taxes, and safeguard the vision of the founding fathers of the country as a stronger United Nations.
