Northern Hausa Hunters were marked as kidnappers, and the gangsters burned in Edo State.
At least, seven (7) people have been confirmed to die, while others are in a critical condition in the medical facility.
On March 27, 2025, a horrible attack on northern travelers in the Udune Efandion community in Uromi, Edo Prefecture sparked national anger.
Travelers who were said to be traveling to Sallah were lynched by angry mobs in the area.
At least, of the 16 (16) bodies, seven were declared the Edo Massacre, while the others were in a critical state.
Daily reports Nigeria collected the incident occurred at around 1:30 pm on Thursday. A Hausa Hunters celebrating Sallah was on the way from Port Harcourt to Kano when it was intercepted by the local Vigilante Group in Uromi Edo.
After the search, the alerts found some Danish guns in the vehicle and concluded that they were kidnappers and bandits. The angry mob immediately took the law into their hands and put down the van while the other victims were pushed into the burning fire by the wheelbarrow.
A witness and security expert said: “Seeing hunting guns. The Danish gun commonly used in the north is misunderstood as a threat. Instead of contacting police or other security agencies, local alerts have issued false alarms, which has triggered a wave of chaos and violence.
The unfounded accusations incited local young people and evilly attacked travelers, killing 16 people on the spot. In a weird barbarity, the mob shoots the truck, trapping some bodies inside the vehicle.
“While some are taken to wheelbarrows and thrown into the fire. This creepy scene points only to the disgusting reality of the mob justice reality that has been rooted in some communities.”
Witnesses said security agents in the area were late because only the victims were rescued from the fire but were in critical condition at the medical center.

Edo governor’s reaction to the horrible incident, Okpebholo condemned the bill on Monday and promised that the perpetrators would be booked. He said in a statement issued through the Chief Security Officer of the Government (CSO) SP Solomon Osaghele, SP, said: “I can assure you that those involved in this unprovoked attack will not be idle, as his Excellency directed his Excellency to direct the Police Commissioner to issue a full investigation on this issue, as I am now criticizing the four.
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu also condemned the case, saying jungle justice has no status in Nigeria. The president ordered a hunt for the Hausa Traveler’s killer. He also praised Edo State Governor Okpebholo’s quick response to the incident.
In addition, former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar expressed grief over the incident. Atiku landed on his former Twitter account and expressed his dissatisfaction with the incident.
He wrote: “This unfortunate incident requires a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation to expose and ensure that those who will be responsible are booked. The protection of innocent lives must be kept crucial, and I urge the authorities to act quickly and decisively to prevent duplication of jungle justice. Not only must justice be seen, but confidence in our security agencies must be restored.”
In addition, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Northern Governors Forum, the Regional Youth Forum, Amnesty International and other civil agencies have also raised their voices to condemn the bill and urged justice for the perpetrators, as Junge Justice is not a constitutional provision.
