What do you need to do to start a business? There are dozens of websites, including our list, that remind you of the many tasks you should do when starting a business.

While such listings are very useful as they help you remember important startup steps, they are just for the listing. They tell you what to do, but don’t provide any tips on making your business successful.

Unfortunately, you won’t succeed by simply completing the task list. Your business won’t succeed either, because you think it’s a good idea.

What will make or destroy your business? What decision was successful?

    1) Know yourself, your true inspirational level, the amount you can take risks and what you are willing to do for success

Of course, we all want to make millions of dollars. But, are you willing to give up on achieving this goal? How many hours do you last each week?

How far are you willing to stretch? How far will your family extend with you? To be successful, make your business plan consistent with your personal and family goals and resources.

    2) Choose the right business for you

The old formula for finding the requirement and filling it – still works. It will work forever. The key to success is finding the needs you can fill, the needs you want to fill, which will generate enough revenue to build a profitable business.

    3) Make sure there is indeed a market for what you want to sell

One of the biggest mistakes a startup makes is to assume that many people want to buy a specific product or service because business owners like these ideas or know one or two people who want a product or service.

To minimize the risk of loss, never assume there is a market. Study this idea. Talk to the real potential prospects (not family and friends) to find out what you want to sell is something they are interested in buying, and if so, they are paying for the product or service.

    4) Research your competitors

No matter what type of business you start or start, you will have competitors. Even if no other business can accurately provide the products you intend to sell, your target customers may use other products or services to meet their needs.

To be successful, you need to research competition and learn as much as you can about their products for sale and how they sell them. Competitive research is also something you should plan on continuously.

    5) The plan is successful

If you are not looking for investors or putting a lot of money into your business, you may not need a well-crafted business plan, but you still need a plan – specifying your goals – destination, and then at least listing a skeleton roadmap to see how to get to where you want to go.

The program will change as you progress and learn more about your customers and competition, but it can still help you stay focused and move in the right direction. Use our business plan worksheets to help develop a basic plan.

    6) Know the operational needs

Most people who are considering doing business focus on what they will sell and people they will sell too. What they often don’t think about is how the business actually works. For example, if you are selling items, how will they be delivered?

How much customer support is needed – answer questions about the product, or respond to people whose goods have not arrived yet? Do you need to accept a credit card? Will you invoice customers? Who will follow up to make sure you get paid?

Who will build and maintain your website and social media? Can you use a virtual assistant to complete such tasks, or do you have to hire employees? Even if you start a small personal service business, these are issues you should consider and plan for.

    7) Don’t delay

I’ve heard that some people advise potential business owners not to continue their business until they investigate the last details of all the businesses they want to start and are absolutely sure that everything will work and be profitable.

The problem with this approach is that it leads to procrastination. Even if they start the business, no one really has all the work.

Yes, you need to research the market, develop basic plans, and execute situations like getting what you need, and if needed, register with a local official (if needed).

    8) Start small-scale before you go all out

Some people think entrepreneurs are adventurers. But in most cases, successful entrepreneurs don’t like to blindfold their eyes on their limbs. Instead, they take controlled risks.

They tested an idea on a small scale and then based on the effect, adjusting what showed hope and discarded the disaster.

    9) Don’t fix mistakes or be depressed by their morale

The difference between successful people and everyone else is that successful people learn from their mistakes and keep moving forward.

They do not live in failure, blame the economy, curse their doom or blame others for their destiny. If their target path is blocked, they will look for alternative paths and sometimes choose a different, more achievable goal.

    Free business start-up list

Doing a business can be overwhelming! Use this free business startup checklist to make sure you don’t miss any important steps. This downloadable Word document lists the steps you need to take to get your business up and running, and contains space for you to pay attention to your comments and deadlines.

    10) Learn from others

Find a mentor, join a group with like-minded people to learn everything you have about your industry and everything you need to get from where you want to get to where you want. Attend industry conferences.

Take training courses when available. Purchase courses provided by experts. By learning from people who have been there before, you will save a lot of trial and error.

    11) Think about your job as a business

Track income and expenditures, separate corporate currency from personal funds, and identify the rules your business needs to comply with.

    12) Understand the difference between working for yourself and building an ongoing business

If you want to build a business, you need to develop systems and methods that allow you to hire other people to do business work while planning. If you don’t bring someone else to work for you, you will limit the potential for growth.

    13) Meet investors

If the business you are doing will require investors to grow, try to find out what investors are looking for and where to find people who may invest in your business. Local angels and venture capital groups are a great place to attend meetings they hold or meetings where investors are speaking.

    14) Put yourself there

Ask for what you want (in a polite way.) I started my online business by participating in GE’s Genie online service online. When I was about to send them a suggestion for a small business field, I could not only talk about my credentials, but also point to where I had contributed to their services.

Remember, people like to do business with people they know. Let the ball roll and keep scrolling by constantly reaching out and introducing yourself to new friends.

    15) Embrace digital marketing

Even if you run a local business, you need a comprehensive digital image. At least you need a professional-looking website, which is an email list that allows you to communicate with customers and prospects regularly and be present on social media channels that your customers often use.

While you may be engaging many customers through word of mouth, recommendations, or networking, you still need a strong digital image. Cause: Potential customers may look for you online before deciding whether to contact you.

Coupons, special offers and practical information sent to your email list can encourage customers and prospects to purchase from you or repeat purchases.

    16) Never stop learning and trying new things

It’s profitable now, and next year or 10 years from now are not necessarily profitable. So don’t let yourself get stuck in the rut of “this is what I’ve always done.” Keep your eyes and ears open to learn about new things.

Is there an updated or better way to market your products and services? Are the customers asking for something you don’t offer? Should you target different types of customers? Get answers by reading everything about your industry and listening to your customers.
