27-year-old man climbs telecom masts in Gombe and threatens suicide debt

Agents from the Gunbee State Police Department rescued a 27-year-old man who tried to kill himself by climbing the telecommunications mast.

Headquarters spokesperson DSP Buhari Abdullahi revealed this in a statement on Monday, March 10, 2025, saying the man identified as Mohammed Bello claimed he was being hunted by security agencies for outstanding debts.

“On March 8, 2025, the Gorbet State Police Department received a call in distress through the command and control room involving an unidentified person who climbed the MTN mast at Maimala Buni Street in Gorbet LGA in Gorbet State and refused to come down,” the statement said.

“After receiving the report, the police in the Pantami branch quickly mobilized the scene.

“After inquiry, the person claimed that he was hunted/hunted by security agencies, an outstanding debt reported by two creditors, who failed to pay and expressed a preference for ending life rather than facing the situation.

“The man was later identified as a Mohammed Bello, a 27-year-old resident of the Jekadafari dormitory in Gombe.

“During the intervention, Katukan Gombe, a respected community leader, convinced Bello to come down and assure him that the debt would be settled.

“After assured, he obeyed the mast and came safely.

“Bellow was detained by police, where he carefully recorded his statements.
