The sad mother said Chibuike was taken to the hospital and later referred to Akodo General Hospital, where he was sent to oxygen but was confirmed dead. She accused the landlord, claiming that her aunt repeatedly warned him to seal the open soak.

A 3-year-old boy, Chibuike Uba, died tragically after falling into an open soak in the Babarinsa area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

The incident happened when his mother visited her aunt. His slippers were found near the soaking meeting, prompting the search to end in a tragedy.

In a voice sent to Punch on Thursday, Utoro, who has been unable to understand since then, said “I visited my aunt and when she got the call I packed my luggage home and my son followed her outside. I continued packing, assuming he was still with her. When she got back inside, I asked about the whereabouts of her son and she claimed he had returned inside. I couldn’t say it. I said no, rushing to search for him, but couldn’t find him, but couldn’t find him.

“That was when I noticed his slippers near the next yard near the house because it had no fence. I immediately shouted that my kid was soaking in the soak. That’s how we quickly tried to pull him out and drive him to the hospital.”

The sad mother said Chibuike was taken to the hospital and later referred to Akodo General Hospital, where he was sent to oxygen but was confirmed dead. She accused the landlord, claiming that her aunt repeatedly warned him to seal the open soak.

“My aunt called the man and said she had warned him to turn off the soaking several times, but he had been promised. Even the board my aunt used to cover it was damaged by the flood. The soaking was still open when I spoke to you.”

Harmony Tachie, a human rights advocate and founder, told the publication Thursday that landlords are not staying in the community.

“We can’t get to the landlord because he is not staying in the area. We are also trying to make sure that incidents are reported at the police station for justice,” She said.
