The Nigerian Immigration Agency (NIS) has arrested 51 undocumented Mali immigrants from the Karu local council of Nasarawa State. There is no valid travel documents or residence permit, and these people are composed of 40 men and 11 women.
NIS Public Relations Officer ACI confirmed the arrest for Akinlabi, noting that the operation was carried out in the operation after reliable intelligence caused the authorities to hide.
Preliminary investigations suggest that migrants may be victims of human trafficking and smuggling.
“None of them made a valid travel document or legal residence certificate,” Akinlabi said.
As the authorities are committed to identifying their illegal entry into the country, the arrested person is currently in detention for further analysis and investigation.
