74 people, including homeless people, were arrested by men from the Lagos State Environmental Task Force, and raided some areas on Lagos Island on May 5 today.
The State Commission on Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab shared a video showing some arrests, including an elderly man in a shelter under one of the bridges.
Wahab mentioned that they will be arraigned in court soon.
“Earlier today, around 1 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the Lagos State Environmental Staff Team set out to conduct the usual cleanup enforcement action around Lekki Axis on Lagos Island.
Areas visited during the operation include: Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Oniru Beach, Law School, Lekki Phase 1&2 and 1004 Phases, where some bad elements were found.
In the raid, a total of 74 people were arrested; 72 men and 2 women, and sanity was restored in all areas.
All suspects will be prosecuted in court based on this. ”
