- Lagos is about to enter the “Detty December” festive season known for its high spending.
- Spending this year appears to be significantly higher than in previous years.
- Even celebrities are surprised by the rise in prices during the holidays.

As the peak of December festivals approaches, Lagos is back to the notoriously expensive “Detty December” mode and this year, the cost seems to have reached a whole new level.
Even celebrities are confused.
Reality TV personalities Leo DaSilva and Nina Ivy recently expressed disbelief at the soaring prices of short-term rental apartments across Lagos, especially Victoria Island, Ikoyi and Lekki.
Leo shared a screenshot from a well-known booking website, showing an apartment in VI being listed for a whopping $9,350 (over £14m) for an 11-night stay.
He summed up the situation in one sentence:
“There is nothing more interesting than the price of apartments in VI and Ikoyi this December.”
Leo said many apartment owners believe the influx of tourists in December guarantees a fully booked calendar. However, with major hotels offering attractive holiday deals, he believes these landlords may be overestimating demand.
According to him, travelers may turn to hotels, ultimately forcing short-term rental owners to slash room rates.
Shortly after Leo’s comments circulated online, BBNaija alum Nina shared her own frustrations.
She revealed that she recently spent 4.2 million pounds to stay in Lekki for 13 nights, which she considered too high a price. But after checking out new listings, she noticed some landlords had raised prices to shocking levels.
In her words:
“This is ridiculous… Some places dare to charge $700,000 a night. You must be crazy.”

@AyodeleTim1: “Two months ago I needed a 3 bedroom apartment in GRA (3 apartments for 3 days) and one of them offered me a ridiculous price, I tried to negotiate but he still insisted on the same price. I got a better one, even cheaper than his own. He called later but I told him I got a better offer”
@NejeebBello: “Someone tried to book 2 of my Airbnb rooms in Lagos for a total of $1,000 from November to January 2026 so he could relist it at a higher price but also wanted to make sure he could ask for a refund if the plan didn’t work out. I told him, Oga, once you pay by credit card, Otilo!”
@Humanxxx00: “The last time I stayed in an Airbnb was in Dubai 5 years ago when Airbnb still made sense. Now? It’s always been hotels because why are you charging me more for cleaning and service and every stupid fee known to man”
