Soludo bans preaching on Anambra market, fines N500,000

Governor Anambra Professor Chukwuma Soludo has used speakers to warn roadside missionaries in public places, especially in markets, for causing noise pollution and disrupting residents.

Sorudo announced that anyone who violates the noise pollution order will face a fine of 500,000.

A viral video circulating on social media on Saturday captured the governor facing an unidentified roadside missionary in the market, directing him to stop slapping traders by preaching. He advised the missionaries to preach in the church or rent an empty place, emphasizing that those interested in listening would look for him there.

“If you want to preach God’s word, go to your church. You’re here to cause noise pollution. You can’t come to the market and disturb everyone.”

He reiterated that the market is not a place of worship and unauthorized religious activities in public places will not be tolerated. “If you want to preach, go to church. Those who want to hear will come to you; you can’t force people on the market to hear your message.”

The governor stressed that anyone who attempts to turn a public space into a church will be prosecuted accordingly. “You will pay 500,000 because we can’t allow it. We ban speakers on the market due to noise pollution, which will affect people’s eardrums. You can’t force people to listen to your sermons. We are suppressing fake pastors and prophets in Anambra.”
