Niger Delta shares in Senate leadership
In response to the comments from the delegation leaders, Jonathan Lokpobiri SNR pointed out that it has been 46 years since the Niger Delta senator last held the Senate presidency and Akpabio guaranteed that the people of the region would not easily take up the post.
He said “The Senate President today is not alone. He represents someone who is very important to the economic life of this country.
“So when people help conspire, I hear Adamava yelling, I hear Kwa State University, I hear some young people from the Southwest being used for things they don’t know, they don’t know the rules of the Senate, you can’t be a herbalist, start quoting the Bible, you don’t know what to quote.
“If you are not studying the Bible, or have nothing to do with Christianity, then you cannot claim to know the Bible better than the Pope. Again, if you are not Imam, you cannot start quoting the Quran.
“But you’ll see people sitting down like football commentators, sit down, and then they’ll say Ronaldo should come from the left and if you’re Messi, you’ll kick from the center. Then, you comment on TV.
“But things related to the sacred chamber of the National Assembly, you can’t start quoting something you’ve never seen before. Only when you’re elected as a Senate or a House member and after taking office, the first thing you’re going to give you is the Red Book.
“That red book contains regular orders that will maintain discipline and etiquette, and also shows you a step-by-step approach to legislation that must be followed and followed. In the House, they will provide you with a green book to indicate the green room.
“But when people don’t have a good understanding of these procedures and start debate about regulations they don’t know, it sometimes makes me worry.
“So, your focus on the current situation is fully understood. We have internal mechanisms to solve the problem, we have solved this problem and we will continue to solve it.”
