    • The federal government of Nigeria handles visas for foreigners within 48 hours.

    • The Minister of Home Affairs Olubunmi Tunji-ojo announced this, while announcing the opening training course for E-VISA in Abuja.

    • The new visa processing schedule is designed to simplify economic participation, tourism and other short-term purposes to Nigeria.

The federal government of Nigeria has announced plans to process visas for foreigners within 48 hours.

Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-ojo disclosed this while announcing the opening training of E-VISA for 162 immigration officials in Abuja.

According to Tunji-Ojo, the government aims to make it easier for people to visit Nigeria for economic participation, tourism and other short-term purposes.

“We want a scenario where people get into Nigeria easier. We want to be able to open our borders for economic participation, tourism and all short-term visas,” he said.

The Minister stressed the importance of balancing convenience and national security, saying: “Let us allow people to come and not do this by undermining national security, and we sincerely believe that we can be integrated in terms of convenience and national security.”

He also noted that the E-VISA solution will enable foreigners to apply for and receive visas electronically within 24 to 48 hours.

Starting from 2025, the United States will exclude visa exemption programs from Nigeria, other African countries

The United States has released a list of eligible countries for the 2025 visa exemption program, excluding Nigeria and other African countries. According to the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs website, the program allows citizens or nationals from most participating countries to travel or business to the United States for up to 90 days without obtaining a visa.

“Travelers must have valid Electronic Travel Authorization System (ESTA) approval before traveling and meet all the requirements described below. If you wish to have a visa on your passport, you may still apply for a visitor visa,” the agency said.
