Ukraine reported on Sunday that Russia has launched more than 100 drones at a critical moment in the war, targeting Kiev and multiple regions as U.S. military aid remains frozen. The attacks came after a deadly strike in northeastern Ukraine on Friday and Saturday, killing at least 14 people.
Ukrainian air force said Russia deployed 119 drones overnight, and was shot down 71 times in more than a dozen areas, including the capital. The fate of the other 37 drones remains unknown, but authorities say they did not cause any harm. The attack caused damage to six areas, although no specific details were provided.
On Saturday night, a gliding bomb attack hit the residential building in Druzhkivka, a small town near the front line in the Donetsk area. Prosecutors reported 12 people were injured, including a 15-year-old girl. Multi-storey apartment buildings and cafes were damaged, and images showed broken windows and debris littered the streets.
Meanwhile, Russia claims Ukraine has launched 131 drones in the Belgorod area bordering Ukraine in the past day. According to regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, 101 drones were shot down, no reports were reported.
Ukrainian officials will meet with U.S. representatives on Tuesday as the conflict escalates. Washington hopes to establish a “framework” for the “peace agreement” for the peace agreement after a decision to freeze weapons freight and limit Kiev’s access to intelligence reports and satellite images.
