“As one public commentator said, honesty, sincerity and integrity are virtues that have nothing to do with the author,” Mohammed said.
He argued that Nigeria’sMilitary PresidentAt that time, Babangida played an absolute power and had to fully revoke the election.
The statement reads:Our attention has drawn the latest claim of former head of state Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, who claimed in his newly released book Journey on Journey, that he claimed that the presidential election on June 12, 1993 was the responsibility of the late Sani Abacha. These claims have sparked widespread controversy and it is necessary to respond clearly to General Sani Abacha and the immediate family of the entire Abacha family to achieve historical accuracy and justice.
“It is important to make it clear that General Sani Abacha was neither the Head of State nor the Commander-in-Chief when the election was abolished on June 12. The decision to abolish the election was made under the management of General Ibrahim Babangida, who, as the then head of state, had absolute executive power and was responsible for the actions of his government. Any General Sani Abacha who attempted to blame this responsibility on a very senior officer in the regime would have deliberately distorted the facts of history. ”
Mohammed Abacha further condemned his efforts to revise history, insisting that decisions under Babangida should not be made to stand-in for his father.
He said:For years, actors of all kinds have tried to rewrite the history of this critical period in Nigeria’s democratic evolution. However, the facts remain the same. We urge Nigerians to be alert to revisionist narratives seeking to manipulate public perceptions for personal or political reasons. The memory of our late father and leader General Sani Abacha is not subject to unfounded charges, aiming to relieve those who are truly responsible. ”
The statement also stressed that despite the allegations, Abacha remained loyal to Babajdah throughout his life and even secured his safety during a time of political crisis.
He said:Despite his unfortunate attempt to change the blame, General Sani Abacha remained a true and loyal friend of General Ibrahim Babangida until his death. He is a person who is unwavering to his comrades. We also find it necessary to point out that General Babanjida’s life is under threat and that General Abacha rescued his safety and ensured his safety. ”
Mohammed Abacha also spoke on the defense of defending his father, vowing to uphold historical accuracy.
“We take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks to many Nigerians who defended Sani Abacha for setting records. Your firm commitment to truth and historical accuracy is deeply appreciated and we acknowledge the support of those who refuse to allow historical twists.,” Mohammed said.
He acknowledged Abacha’s contribution to Nigeria’s development and criticized Babangida’s memoirs because he missed the opportunity to honestly illustrate history.
He said:As we reflect on Nigeria’s history, we thank General Sani Abacha for his time in leadership and his role in the development of the country. Like the leaders of the past, his contribution remains a part of our country’s history. We believe that it is best to judge history by fairness and objectivity.
“We regret that a journey of service missed the opportunity and did not describe history as a true and objective description of past events. As one public commentator said, honesty, sincerity and integrity are virtues that have nothing to do with the author.”
