Security agencies have launched a massive operation to track pastoralists responsible for the deadly attack on Ihitte/Ngor Okpala Road in IMO state last Friday.
The attacker allegedly kidnapped the passenger, K! The driver prompted the police, forest guards, local alert and other security forces to coordinate the response.
Search operations are underway in the AVU, Irete, Ihiagwa and Obinze autonomous communities in Owerri West and parts of Ngor Okpala LGA.
During a security operation on Monday, IMO State Police Commissioner Aboki Danjuma addressed reporters, noting that Biafra (IPOB) and its indigenous people, Eastern Security Network (ESN), had previously designated it as Monday’s “residence day”.
However, he assured residents that the directive is no longer effective because the threats of security forces to the area are neutralized.
Danjuma revealed that the latest operation at Ihiagwa Avu Forest led to the arrest of several suspects who now provide useful intelligence.
The operation was carried out in three departments, each led by a separate commander, including Commander Brigand, another security leader and Commissioner Dangema himself.
He urged IMO residents to ignore the order of “sitting at home” and restore their daily activities without fear.
He also called on the public to report any information related to security to him, to assure him, the Brigas commander or the Air Force commander that confidentiality is maintained.
