Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State and founding member of the All Progressive Conference (APC), announced his resignation from the ruling party and defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In a statement released on Monday, March 10, 2025, El-Rufai expressed disappointment with the leadership of the APC, accusing the party of wandering from the progressive ideals of its founding members.
He revealed that over the past two years he has raised concerns about the party’s trajectory but has no intention of addressing the issues among current leaders.
“The developments in the past two years have confirmed that there is no desire for those who currently control and operate APCs to admit, let alone address, the unhealthy situation of the party,” El-Rufai said.
