Nelfund links student loan portal to schools for ease of verification
To simplify the verification process for student loan applicants, Nelfund, a Nigerian education loan fund, has begun working to integrate its platform with an institutional portal to seamlessly verify student information.
Nelfund’s executive director of operations Mustapha Iyal disclosed the development Tuesday in a sensitive program for senior institutions in the state of Kwara at the University of Ilorin.
Speaking about the need for integration, Iyal said: “One of the main challenges we face is verification
“To address this, we plan to work directly with institutions by connecting Nelfund’s activities with their portal.”
He added: “This will enable students to choose their preferred payment method (whether through Nelfund, cash or otherwise) from the school’s enrollment process.”
According to him, the move will eliminate the need for students to visit the Nelfund portal separately, thus ensuring a smoother and more efficient process.
Resolving concerns raised by students of beneficiary institutions in Kwara State, Iyal guarantees that the fund is actively engaged in solutions.
“We are committed to making the process seamless. We operate 24 hours a day and are always available to students,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the National Association of Students of Nigeria (NANS), Umar Farouk praised President Bola Tinubu for establishing the Student Loan Initiative and noted that it would enhance access to higher education for poor students.
“One of the president’s campaign promises is student loans, and I’m happy to say it’s reality.
“This initiative ensures that children from low-income backgrounds can go to higher education without financial barriers,” Farouk said.
