The Nigerian Senate reiterated Senator Natasha Akpoti-uduaghan’s mid-month period in its executive meeting on Wednesday, despite some MPs calling for a re-examination of the decision.

Naija News Recalling the charges against the Senate President Godswill Akpabio sexual harassment.

The Senate Ethics and Public Petition Committee recommends a six-month moratorium, which includes withholding her salary, allowances and allowances for legislative aides, and withdrawing her secure escort.

During Wednesday’s meeting, the Senate Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe Central) and Abdul Ahmed Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central) proposed the establishment of a committee to address issues involving Akpoti-uduaghan and to send a vote of confidence to Senate President Akpabio.

However, former Edo Governor and Senator Adams Osiomcon (APC) strongly opposed the idea, believing that the establishment of a committee would reverse the suspension of the Senate, portraying it as weak.

    Akpabio gets more support

Sources in the Senate reveal senators to the Sahara Victor May (Labor) supported Akpabio and even proposed a vote of confidence to the Senate president.

“Goje, Ningi and Dickson oppose the suspension. Goje and Ningi propose to set up a committee to resolve the Natasha issue and give Akpabio a vote of confidence. However, Osiom Hole opposes any committee, saying that if they back down, it will make the Senate look weak,” Senate sources said.

“LP’s Victor Umeh also supports Akpabio and has presented a vote of confidence in the Senate.” Source added.

After deliberation, the Senate concluded that Akpoti-uduaghan would give her full suspension, which took effect on March 6, 2025.
