Russia agreed earlier this week with Ukrainian-backed U.S. ceasefire plan, but the country stopped signing any deals because it requires further negotiations that must lead to “lasting peace.”
“This idea [of a ceasefire] It is correct in itself, and we are certainly supporting it, but there are some issues that need to be discussed. I think we need to talk to our American colleagues and partners. Maybe call President Trump and discuss it together. However, we support the idea of ending this conflict through peaceful means. ” said NBC Translator.
Putin also said a deal must “from the fact that such a stop should lead to long-term peace and eliminate the root cause of this crisis.”
“We agree with this, but there are nuances,” he said when asked about the 30-day ceasefire deal that the White House has prompted. Kiev supported the plan on Tuesday, depending on Moscow’s deal.
He also questioned whether 30 days were used to “provide weapons” or “train new mobilized units” and how to monitor potential violations of the ceasefire.
A U.S. delegation led by Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Moscow on Thursday for ceasefire talks.
Early signs of Russian officials appear to indicate that the country will not immediately register a US-led deal. Russia’s presidential aide Yuri Ushakov did not confirm or deny it, but pointed out that the truce would give Ukraine a chance to promote its forces, saying the plan “a temporary respite for the Ukrainian military, that’s all.”
The draft agreement will put all military activities in Russia and Ukraine a halt, which may exceed 30 days of consent. It also calls for “prisoners of war exchange, release of civilian detainees and the return of forced Ukrainian children to return to Russia”.
After signing the deal, the United States immediately canceled the pause of sharing intelligence and military aid with Ukraine.
Analysts say that despite the huge losses in the battlefield, Russia is now developing gradually in Ukraine, which is also jeopardized by its sour relationship with the United States.
