The federal government has urged Nigerians to ignore the remarks of former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the ₦15.6 trillion Lagos-Galabal Coastal Highway Initiative.

In his publication, the title is “Nigeria: The Past and the Future” Naija News Obasancho set the 700km project as a misallocation of priorities, the report said.

In response to Obasanjo’s criticism, the Minister of Engineering David Umahi, The issue was addressed Thursday at a press conference with reporters in Akur, the capital of Odo State.

The minister encouraged Nigerians to ignore Obasanjo’s statements about the super highway project and asserted that those who oppose the initiative should not use the path once they are completed.

Umahi stressed that the Lagos-Calabal Coastal Expressway, one of President Tinub’s four major legacy projects, challenged critics who believed it was a waste of resources to avoid using the road after completion.

“If someone calls this project fraudulent, they also call me fraud, I absolutely am not. The project is very transparent and we continue to attract stakeholders. Every step of the process is in the public domain,” He said.

Quick response “This man (Obasanjo) deserves our respect by his age, but as the engineering minister, the project is not wasted, the project is not corrupt. I read on social media that they say why I want to explain why, why is the contract not explained?

“What should the contractor say? It is my responsibility to explain that I am qualified to explain the project because of the reasons I am training in the Nigerian Association of Engineers in Public Services and Training.

“I think anyone who is still criticizing the project is waking up and saying how a man attributes to this legacy, especially if you have the opportunity to do something to promote this investment and you are not doing it.

“The fact remains the first part of Lagos-Calabar, which is 47.7 km. This work has been completed in a year about 70% and I will ask those who criticize it for not following the road. They should not follow the road.”
