The Osen State Police Department arrested alleged religious person Segun Ogunfunmilayo in an attempt to possess a firearm.
Command spokesman SP Akeem Adeoye confirmed the arrest in a statement Thursday, March 13, 2025, saying the suspect allegedly shot and killed a store owner for an unresolved cash transfer dispute at EDE.
According to PPRO, the suspect admitted to being a member of the Alora cult.
The incident occurred around 9:00 pm on Saturday, March 8, and Ogunfunmilayo reportedly visited a store in the Ede Biharry/Ishola area to buy energy drinks worth N500.
He then asked the N400 to use cash from the store owner to enable him to make the N900 transfer.
However, when the store owner did not receive an alert for the transaction, he contacted Ogunfunmilayo for clarification.
Instead of peacefully resolving the matter, the suspect allegedly pulled out a cut-sized pistol from his schoolbag and shot the store owner with his left hand and right arm before escaping the scene.
After reports of the incident, the police worked with the Joint Civil Task Force (JTF) to track down Ogunfunmilayo’s hiding place, where he was arrested.
Law enforcement officers recovered cut-sized pistols and live cartridges from him.
“Once the investigation is found, he will be prosecuted immediately,” Adeoye added.
