Scientists have discovered a new coronavirus that can be transmitted to humans.
Researchers from Brazil and colleagues from the University of Hong Kong discovered the bat’s mouth and rectum after discovering new strains.
This novel strain is closely related to MERS – the disease kills about 35% of infected people.
The composition of the viral spike protein used to trigger infection means it can infect human cells, the researchers warned.
Now, the virus is shipped to China along with six other viruses found during the study period.
Despite concerns about the involvement of the co-pandemic, further tests will be conducted to determine whether they can infect human cells.
“Now, we are not sure it will infect humans,” said Dr. Bruna Silverio, principal investigator at the University of St. Paul.
“But we detected a portion of the peak protein of the virus (bound to mammalian cells), indicating interaction with the receptor used by MERS-COV.”\
