Lagos State Police Command denied reports that police ordered a sad wife to arrest her husband for killing her second wife.
Sahara reporters reported that Charles Chiawa was detained at the Egibo Police Department on orders by his victimized wife Uche Chiawa for allegedly suspicion of sending his second wife.
The report noted that Charles and Uche had been married for 20 years, but troubles were reportedly started when another woman, eight years ago, with another woman, gave birth to a child. Charles insisted that since he married Uche, he had the right to seize another wife, which was done under traditional customs. However, Uche believes that their union is not only a traditional marriage, but also registered as a court marriage, which gives her legal reason to act against her husband.
“I also do court, not just traditional marriages. I arrested him with the police because he always beat me up.”
Sources familiar with the issue told the publication;
“Charles was detained at the Ejigbo Police Department by his first wife, accusing him of marrying another wife. I was told that the first wife had a connection with Ejigbo’s woman and she wanted her husband to suffer in the cell.”
According to sources, efforts were made to ensure Charles’ release, but Uche reportedly blocked all attempts.
State Police Command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said the report was dismissed, saying Mr. Charles was arrested for domestic violence.
The suspect, Charles Chiawa, is 35, was arrested for domestic violence. While inside the station house, he threatened to kill her and heard a hearing from the DPO and other officers.
So he was detained this morning and transferred to the gender department of the Lagos State Police Department for a detailed investigation and prosecution.
The Lagos State Police Commander will not tolerate any form or shape of family and sexual violence. ”’
