    The retired Naval Chief of Staff Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas was born on September 27, 1960, after the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu, the Chief Executive of the River State on September 27, 1960.

    Mr. Ibas is a NKO native of the Cross River and is the 22nd Naval Chief of Staff in Nigeria between 2015 and 2021. He served in the Nigerian Navy when he retired from 1979-2021.

    He began his primary education in NKO Elementary School in 1966 and ended at Calabar Big Qua Elementary School in 1971. Between 1972 and 1976, he attended the Hope Waddell Training Academy Calabar.

    In 1977, he studied at the Ogoja School of Basic Studies. He went to the Nigerian National Defense Academy in 1979 to serve in a variety of abilities and was promoted to serve as Chief of Staff of the Navy.

    During his service, he participated in several local and international military courses, including the Amphibious War School in the United States Marine Corps in Virginia in 1992 and the National Defense Academy in Islamabad, Pakistan. He received his Master’s Degree in Defense and Strategic Studies from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan.

    Mr Ibas, 64, has won several awards, including the Ecomog Medal and Force Service Star. He was awarded by former President Muhammadu Buhari and commanders of the Federal Republic (CFR).

    Mr. IBA took over the leadership of Rivers after Mr. Tinubu announced a lingering hostilities between Sim Fubara and former President Nyesom Wike.
