Governor Siminilayi Fubara called on the people of the River State to remain peaceful and law-abiding after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state.
President Tinob decided to declare a state of emergency on Monday, March 18, a attempt by the river to impeach Governor Fobara after a protracted political turmoil.
After the announcement, President Tinob appointed Deputy Admiral Ibok-Ibeth Ibas as the sole administrative officer of the state, suspending Governor Fobala, his deputy and the Rivers State Capitol.
In a statement released on Tuesday, March 19, Governor Fobara reiterated his commitment to constitutional governance and the well-being of river residents, despite ongoing political crises.
“Even in the face of a political deadlock, we remain committed to the constitutional order and the rule of law, which makes the interests of our people the most important,” he said.
The governor explained that his administration has implemented the peace agreement of the presidential agreement, including resuming resigned committee members and complying with the Supreme Court’s decision to restore normalcy. However, he accused the Rivers State Assembly of thwarting his efforts to achieve lasting peace.

“My dear river man,
Today, as we have spent this unfortunate moment in our state political history, I speak to you today with a profound sense of responsibility and calmness.
Since taking office as governor, all my actions and decisions have been guided by my constitutional oath and a great sense of responsibility.
We prioritize the protection of life and property and ensure the ongoing progress of our dear country.
Even in the face of a political deadlock, we remain committed to the constitutional order and the rule of law, which makes the interests of our people the most important.
This is why we immediately enforce the agreed terms with sincerity after Mr. President intervened in the brokerage peace, including welcoming the committee members who had previously resigned at their own will.
Furthermore, we acted promptly to comply with the Supreme Court’s judgment and immediately we received a certified copy of the judgment to restore the country to normal.
These steps are not for personal gain, but for the promotion of peace, unity and stability in our dear state.
Unfortunately, members of the River State Capitol were frustrated by our efforts, thus making real peace and progress difficult.
Our priorities remain the security of life and property and promote the well-being and prosperity of the people of the river.
Yes, we have political divisions, but good governance continues, salary is paid, and great projects are being implemented to move the country forward. Most importantly, River State is safe, safe and peaceful under our watch.
At this critical moment, I urge all river people to maintain peace and law-abiding. We will interact with all relevant institutions to ensure that our democracy remains strong and that river countries continue to thrive.
We have always been a resilient person and we will face this with wisdom, patience and a firm belief in the democratic process. ”
