Trump administration freezes Upenn-funded $175 million to get trans athletes into women’s sports

Trump administration freezes Upenn-funded $175 million to get trans athletes into women's sports

The Trump administration is freezing $175 million in taxpayer funds to the University of Pennsylvania to ignore the president’s execution and continue to get transgender athletes to participate in women’s sports.

This fund accounts for one fifth of the total federal funds of the Ivy League University. According to Fox Business, the payments come from the Department of Defense and the Department of Health and Human Services.

The White House account posted a “Commitment Made, Commitment Guaranteed” on Wednesday, March 19 X.

Upenn received about $1 billion in federal funding in 2024, but could drive more taxpayer currencies away in other possible IX violations by Trump administrators against the Department of Education.

Trump, 78, signed an executive order on February 5 called “The Movement to Disconnect Men from Women” before investigating.

After one of its male swimmers changed gender and joined the women’s team, elite schools became the center of controversy for trans athletes to participate in controversy before winning the NCAA Level I title.

After transitioning ahead of the 2022 season, cross swimmer Lia Thomas won the women’s 500-yard freestyle.

Thomas also went on to tie for fifth place with Riley Gaines, a female swimmer at the University of Kentucky, and has since become a vocal opponent for trans athletes in women’s sports.

Gaines posted on X on Wednesday, March 19: “Three years ago, I played at the Di NCAA Championship in the 200 Freestyle and tied for a man.”

“Today, for this reason, the Trump administration suspended $175 million in federal funding.”

The Department of Education is also targeting San Jose State University, which has been involved in IX title issues after allowing a transgender volleyball player to join its women’s team.

The Massachusetts Interschool Athletic Association may also violate federal gender-based non-discrimination laws.

The Trump administrator officials’ move comes after the president also puts the university behind Maine’s crosshairs due to possible headline violations.

Last month, the commander-in-chief began an investigation that could end with Maine schools losing $250 million in annual federal funds.

Trump defeated the state’s Democratic Governor Janet Mills at the White House in February to trans sports policies.

He told Mills: “You better comply!

Maine Governor fired backwards: “See you in court!”
