Conor McGregor announced his intention to run for president in Ireland and announced his political ambitions on social media.
The UFC superstar said on Thursday, March 20 that he wanted to shape the appropriate voice of his country’s people for their future.
The main issue pushing McGregor’s decision is the proposed EU immigration agreement, which he discussed earlier during his recent visit to the White House with former U.S. President Donald Trump.
“The next presidential election must be held by November 11, 2025,” McGregor said. “Who else will support the administration and oppose this bill? The other presidential candidates they are trying to propose have no resistance to them. I will!”
Despite his strong opposition to the bill, McGregor stressed that the final decision should be up to the people, not the government.
“All citizens of Ireland can have voices and choices about their future!” he said.
McGregor also expressed his willingness to discuss with officials who supported the bill, saying he would accept the debate.
The former UFC champion hints at his political aspirations for some time. Last year, he declared: “Ireland needs an active president who is fully employed by the Irish people. This is me. I am the only logical choice. 2025 is coming…”
On Thursday, March 20, he urged Irish citizens to take action and called on them to support his bid. “Vote McGregor and listen to your voice!”
