These actions portray the country in a negative light - GEJ's response to the State of Emergency Declaration in River State

Former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan said the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the image of other elected officials in Nigeria’s River State.

The former Nigerian leader said when he was chairing the symposium of the Hask Satumari Foundation in Abuja on Saturday, March 22.

“These actions by key actors in the administration and legislative sectors of the government portray the country in a negative light.”

He said it was not the norm for the former president to comment on the issue to avoid exacerbating the political system. However, he added that his comments became necessary during calls from many Nigerians, urging him to talk about the incident in Rivers.

He added that the image of the country and the amount of investment a country attracts depends on the actions of the country’s executive, legislature and judiciary.

Goodluck Jonathan condemned the situation where a person could order the judiciary and pointed out that it made it difficult for anyone to have confidence in the judiciary.

On Tuesday, March 18, President Tinob declared a state of emergency in Rivers State following a protracted political crisis in the state.

On national broadcast. The president announced a moratorium on Gov Fubara, his associate professor Ngozi ODU and state legislators for six months and appointed the state’s sole administrator.
