Navy Lieutenant Cynthia Akor and her sister were kidnapped in Abuja and regained their freedom after joint operations of security forces. Their release occurred in the Karu area of Abuja after coordinated efforts by the Guard Brigade, Naval Forces Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Department and the Office of National Security Advisor (ONSA).
Akor served at the Ministry of Defense Headquarters (DHQ), and her sister kidnapped Abuja on Friday night at Mpape in Abuja, where armed men later contacted their families and demanded a ransom of 10 billion guild. However, sources revealed that between Friday night and Saturday night, 4 million guilds were raised and the kidnappers were paid to the two sisters.
While negotiating, security agents stepped up their efforts to track down the kidnappers. By Sunday, March 23, their pursuit forced the kidnappers to abandon victims in the Karu area.
Sources confirmed that security forces recovered cash from fleeing suspects and some personal belongings, including clothing. The kidnapper reportedly left the money and the victim realized that security agents were shutting down.
In further development, security forces have detained relatives of some kidnappers. Among those detained, one suspect’s mother and sister were also detained, while the other suspect’s father and wife were also detained as authorities sought more information on the gang’s actions.
