Federal Capital Territory FCT, Minister Nyesom Wike announced Wednesday that he will secure the former Democratic PDP, presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar failed in his next presidential term.
Wike said in his media aide that he does not regret Atiku’s refusal to elect him as his running mate during the 2023 presidential election.
The rift between Atiku and Wike dates back to the controversial PDP primary in 2022. Wike is expected to be compensated by the vice president slot machine, but Atiku chose former Delta State Governor ifeanyi okowa.
In a new interview with Adesina Giwa-Osagie, Atiku said he “does not regret” ignoring Wike as his campaign partner in the 2023 presidential election.
Atiku solves why he chose Okowa over Wike, and he says he deliberately left the decision to the PDP.
“They said I didn’t have extensive consultations in 2019 when I chose Peter Obi as my running companion, so in 2023 I told the party to form a committee and recommend three names,” Atiku said.
Atiku said the committee ranked Okova with Vic second and former Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel ranked third.
“So I chose No. 1,” he said.
Olayinka responded that Wike did not regret losing to Okowa.
Olayinka posted on X, “Two years after @officialpdpnig lost the presidential election he could win, @Atiku gave the reason that he did not choose @GovWike as his campaign companion and he had no regrets about him.
“Someone should tell us about the successive presidential elections, and Vick doesn’t regret making sure he loses in the election and making sure he loses time and time again.”
