Nigeria News Nalin A bill attempting to ban people over 60 from fighting for elections for president and governor in Nigeria has been read in the House of Representatives.
The proposed legislation sponsored by Rep. Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere is intended to amend parts of the 1999 Constitution to introduce age restrictions for candidates seeking top political positions in the United States.
Under the bill, anyone who competes for a presidential or governorship must be over 60 years old at the time of election.
In addition, the bill stipulates that candidates must have at least a bachelor’s degree as a minimum education requirement.
If the bill becomes law, articles 131 and 177 of the Constitution will be amended to reflect these new standards.
