Police received a report from a Sani in Tambuwal LGA on March 17, 2024, saying his two-day old baby was kidnapped by Hamida Mustapha in the Hwakon Edi district of Tambuwal LGA, according to a statement issued by the commander’s public relations officer DSP Ahmad Rufa’i.
The complainant claimed that Hamida, who claimed to be his sister’s friend, visited his house, brought clothes to the baby and told the mother that she wanted to take the baby to her boyfriend outside the house. But she escaped from the baby.
A year after the incident, on March 12, 2025, Hamida and her husband misunderstood, and the speculation caused speculation in the town that the baby was not the husband’s son. The biological father reported the matter to the police station and invited Hamida to interrogate.
During the interrogation, police said Hamida admitted to the crime and revealed that she lied to her husband and relatives and gave birth to a baby. She also admitted to bringing the baby to her grandmother, who denied knowing what she called childbirth.
Police have reunited the baby with their parents and Hamida is currently facing charges.
The police commissioner of Sokoto State Command CP Ahmed Musa reiterated the command’s efforts to get rid of all forms of crime and criminal status.
He urged the public to continue providing police with useful information and prayers, while advising parents to be cautious about their children’s exercise.
