Kenya Football Federation suspends goalkeeper Patrick Matasi over protest claims

Matasi was suspended for 90 days in all football activities, while authorities investigated the game’s claims.

The Kenyan Football Federation (FKF) announced the news on Thursday night, confirming the formal investigation into the allegations against Kenyan Premier League stars began.

    Viral video spark matching problem

When the video surfaced online, the controversy began, and Matasi allegedly discussed ways to influence matching results.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper, who played for Kakamega Homeboyz, has been a key player in the Kenyan national team, earning 26 blocks.

His 4-1 victory over Cameroon in Kenya also attracted attention in the AFCON 2024 qualifiers, as some goals seem to be questionable.

FKF and FIFA promise a fair and transparent investigation

In response to the allegations, the FKF issued a statement highlighting its commitment to fair competition and soccer integrity.

Federal assured fans and stakeholders that the investigation will be thoroughly transparent, conducted in partnership with FIFA, CAF and other relevant organizations.

The federal government stated as follows:

“The Kenyan Football Federation (FKF) realized that videos involved goalkeeper Patrick Matasi circulated online have raised concerns about possible matches.”
