    • Senator Natasha Akpoti-uduaghan faces a recall petition from her voters in the Kogi Central Senate area.

    • Akpoti-uduaghan’s legal team claimed that the signature was forged and had requested the Inspector General and Kogi State Police Commissioner for investigation.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, asked Police Attorney General Kayode Egbetokun and Kogi State Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye to apply for a recall petition to sign her.

The petition was submitted to the IG and the Police Commissioner on Friday afternoon.

The recall petition was submitted to the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) by some voters in Akpoti-Uduaghan, claiming that 250,000 signatures have been collected. However, the Akpoti-uduaghan legal team, led by Victor Giwa, claimed the signature was forged and was prosecuting the case in court.

“We know that the signatures are forged and are the actions of the APC member of Kogi State University and are eager to remove her,” said Giva.

Giwa explained that the legal team decided to submit the forged petition to the police because it involved a criminal offense. “The INEC does not examine the material for forgery cases. Their expectation is to compare whether the signature corresponds to the signature signed by the owner. But we claim that this is a forgery case and that only the police can handle the forgery case.”

The recall process is underway and INEC is expected to verify the signature of each voting unit in the constituency. However, Giva insists that the allegations of forgery must be resolved first. “This case is in court, and INEC is known. Secondly, we are now dealing with fraud charges. Some have submitted certain signatures while others have claimed they were forged, which is a criminal matter.”

The Ebila People’s Association condemned the ongoing recall process, calling it a gangster who aims to undermine democracy’s political motivations.

“The Independent National Election Commission has illegally provided support to impostors and petitioners who claim to have collected 250,000 forged and stolen signatures,” said Baba Abdulrazaq, secretary of the association.
