    Urumi Killing: In this sad time, I stand with you

    Edo State Governor, Senator Okpebholo on Monday expressed condolences to the families of the victims who were brutally killed in Uromi, Edo State.

    The governor was deeply moved by the tragic incident and assured the families of the deceased and the people of Kano that he would serve justice.

    During the visit, Governor Okpebholo described the attack as unfortunate and reiterated his commitment to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice.

    “I was deeply moved when I received news of the incident at night. By 4 a.m. I left Abuja and rushed to the Uto Islands to meet the affected families. During my campaign, your people supported me and I stood with you in this sad time. I expressed my condolences to the people of Kano State and prayed to the souls of the victims.

    “We have made significant progress in the investigation. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was dissatisfied with the incident and directed the security agencies to pursue the culprit. I can assure you that justice will prevail.

    “About 14 suspects have been arrested so far and after the holiday, they will be transferred to Abuja for further trial. As the investigation continues, more arrests will be followed.,” Governor Okpebholo said.

    In response, the Governor of Kano State praised Governor Okpebholo for his rapid intervention and support for the family who lost a loved one.

    He said:We thank the Governor of Edo State for his quick response to this tragic incident. It is known that our people are returning from Harcourt Port when they are brutally murdered. Most of the victims came from two local governments in Kano State. Governor Okpebholo immediately visited the scene, ensuring that the body was retrieved and proper burial was arranged.

    “He also made a commitment to support the affected families and I can confirm that he has fulfilled those promises.

    “We believe in his assurance that the culprit will be booked because justice remains our priority. The people of Kano are peaceful and hospitality. This is a lesson for all and I urge all leaders in Nigeria to ensure the safety and protection of all citizens, regardless of their location, no matter where they are in their place.

    Badamasi Sally spoke on behalf of the Arewa community in Edo, reaffirming the long-standing cordiality between the northern community and the Edo people, stressing that unfortunate events should not be used to damage the state’s image.

    He said: “I was born and raised in Edo State and we have always maintained a peaceful relationship with the people here. This incident should not be used to build a reputation for donating or smearing the Edo State government. The quick response from the state government is commendable. In addition, the people of the Ururomi rescued some of the victims from the attack, which will not change our bond. Our bond will not be with edo edo edo eedo of eedo.

    Fred Akhigbe, the leader of the Kano Edo community, also praised Governor Okpebholo’s visit, urging the two communities to maintain peace and unity.
