Lynch Traveler: The Kano government demands public marches of suspects and compensation for victims

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf demanded public march of alleged killers of 16 hunters and compensation for the victims’ families.

The Governor made a demand during a condolence visit to Governor Okpebholo on Monday, March 31, at Edo, Kano.

The visit was only on Saturday when the body of a hunter who was lynched by a mob was buried in Ulomi, Edo-era.

Members of Hausa community gathered at the community cemetery to pay their last respects to the victims, who were burned to death last Thursday and were accused of kidnapping.

When the hunter was intercepted by a vigilant group, the hunter was traveling on a truck, 16 of whom were murdered and 10 escaped.

Yusuf, who chaired Okpebholo at the Kano Poilding House, said the attack was disturbing, stressing that Nigeria values the sacredness of human life.

“This cowardly act contradicts the fundamental principles of our society, which originate from Islam and Christian doctrines.

“So far, 14 suspects related to the killing have been arrested. Since Kano remains a treasure within me, we will continue to maintain the value of being the guardian of our brothers,” he said.

The governor’s concerns about possible retaliation by the Northerners said: “We have taken strong security measures to prevent any retaliation attacks. We also urge the public publicity of the arrested persons to bring relief to the victim’s families and ensure responsibility.”

He noted: “I call on Governor Okpebholo to ensure that families of victims receive fair compensation for their losses. I also commend President Tinubu for his quick response and commitment to justice by directing security agencies to pursue perpetrators.”

Previously, Okpebholo condemned the brutal killing of hunters in Udune, the local government area of Uromi, the state, saying the attack was barbaric and unacceptable.

“I was very sad about this unfortunate incident. Upon arrival, I met my Hausa brothers, who generously supported me in my campaign,” said Okpebholo.

He further noted that President Bra Tinub had directed the inspector general of police and other security agencies to track the perpetrators and ensure that they face justice.

He assured: “We have taken strong security measures to hold all involved accountable. Security agencies have begun investigations to bring the culprit to justice.”
