South Korea’s Constitutional Court will issue its ruling on Friday, April 4 whether to permanently remove impeachment president Yoon Suk Yeol.
The court said in a statement Tuesday, April 1 that the ruling would briefly announce martial law at the end of last year (02:00 a.m. GMT) after the Immunity bombing was launched, and lawmakers blasted the bombing.
At least six of the eight justices had to stick with the Yuan’s impeachment each to evacuate him from the office.
If the court confirms Yoon’s impeachment, the presidential election will take place within 60 days.
Otherwise, Yoon, who has been suspended since mid-December, will recover immediately.
Yoon claims he issued a brief martial law order to elicit obstructionism and sympathetic stance against his claim to the opposition Democrats.
Yoon was elected in 2022 and lifted martial law within six hours of the National Assembly’s unanimous vote to overturn the decree.
