Edo government election court submits verdict on Wednesday

The Edo Governor Election Petition Tribunal will make a judgment on a petition filed by the People’s Democratic Party and its candidate Asue Ighodalo on Wednesday, April 2, against the EDO Governor’s election in September 2024.

PDP and IGHODALO questioned the Independent National Election Commission announced the decision of Senator Okpebholo on Monday. They claim the election was disrupted by violations.

The Nigerian News Agency reported that the three members’ court, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, retained the judgment in the petition after adopting the final written address by the parties on March 3.

The court will make a judgment in three marked petitions: EPT/ED/GOV/01/2024, EPT/ED/GOV/GOV/02/2024, and EPT/ED/ED/GOV/03/2024.

NAN reported that the court admitted in evidence on January 31 that 148 Twin Peak Voter Certification System machines used during the controversial governor poll.

Electronic equipment was tendered by a senior technical officer from Anthony Itodo, INEC ICT department, and evidence was entered by the team

The petitioner summoned the INEC to produce the BVA machine used in the controversial 133 voting units.

INEC announced that APC’s Okpebholo won 291,667 votes to beat his closest rival, PDP’s Ighodalo, who won a total of 247,655 votes.

PDP and its candidates were not satisfied with the poll’s results and turned to the court for help, praying that it was invalid INEC declared APC and Okpebholo as the winners of the match

The petitioner, among other things, believes that the gubernatorial election is invalid because it is allegedly incompatible with the 2022 Election Act.

However, the APC and Okpebholo urged the court to dismiss the petition, believing that the petitioner failed to confirm the allegations in its petition.
