Kristoffer Olsson, a former Arsenal youth midfielder, has jointly agreed to terminate the contract with FC Midtjylland one year after being diagnosed with an acute brain condition. The 29-year-old Olsson, who graduated from Arsenal Academy in 2013, was diagnosed with several small clots in his brain due to extremely rare vascular inflammation after losing consciousness at his home on February 20 last year. Midtjylland said the midfielder will return to Norrkoping, Sweden, where he will be close to his family and he can pursue ambition to live as a football player. “It’s not only a story about sports, but also about the power of humanity when life suffers from unreasonable hard times,” said Midtjylland Deputy Football Director Kristian Bach Bak. “He showed us what all courage means in practice.” Olsen said in a club statement that he was “very grateful” to the Danish club he joined in 2022. “The club, the people, everyone around me – they’re there from the first second,” Olson said. “FC Midtjylland is not only a football club, but a place to take care of people.” Olson will train with his breakthrough club IFK Norrkoping. “First of all, I still dream of being a football player. Being able to train fully and feel that I have contributed to a team,” he said. “I feel better every week and more hungry and motivated than ever before. Having the opportunity to do this at home in Norrkoping and getting close to my family and friends means a lot. Olsen played for Sweden 47 times. At the club level, he also played for Anderlecht of Belgium, Krasnodar of Russia, Aik of Sweden and the Gunners youth team. Former Arsenal Postal Youth Star Kristoffer Olsson first appeared on the Linda Ikeji blog after being diagnosed with a rare brain condition at the age of 29.
