Nigerian chess champion Tunde Onakoya has offered a scholarship to the little girl on Monday, March 31.
In a video shared online, Detoun criticized her mother for bringing the 11-year-old to a place where she can make a living. According to Adetoun, child labour should not be tolerated.
Her videotape was severely opposed by Nigerians, condemning her for saying she humiliated her mother in front of her children. Some people think that they are not wrong with the little girls who help their mother out. After that, Adetoun apologized to the woman.
Onakoya’s reaction to the trend video through his X-handle, condemning Adetoun for criticizing the woman and filming and publishing the video online. He continues to provide scholarships to girls to her college level.
“Very cruelly humiliated the mother in front of her daughter. Worse, document it on social media.
My mother used to sweep people’s houses and trenches in 2016. It was so painful that I couldn’t financially stop her. I often insist on going with her just to help get the water she needs so we can finish it faster and get home before daytime. I don’t want anyone to see us. The poverty that drives people to hide their labor in the dark is a painful poverty.
Yes, that kid shouldn’t work. But what she and her mother deserve is more than anger, it is compassion. The only humane response is help.
If no one has done this, I want to take full responsibility for the education of girls through college. I hope this will somehow relieve them of the burden. These are incredibly difficult times.
Our privilege blinds us in ways we will never really understand. ”
