Legendary Hollywood star Val Kilmer is known for his roles in iconic films such as Top Gun, Top Gun, Batman Forever and The Doors at the age of 65.
His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, confirmed his death to the media on Wednesday.
According to Mercedes, the actor died of pneumonia in a statement to the New York Times.
He died Tuesday, April 1 at his home in Los Angeles. Fans and colleagues are mourning the loss of talented actors, whose contribution to the film will be remembered forever.
On social media, film production company Paramount Pictures pays tribute to American actors. The joint Instagram post of the company, Paramount Home Entertainment and the official top gun social media channel said: “Remember Val Kilmer, his indelible movie tag spans genre and generations.
Back in 2014, the actor was diagnosed with throat cancer, a battle that prevented him from speaking and was largely watched for years. He discusses his own diagnosis and recovery in his memoir in 2020, I am your Huckleberry and Amazon Prime documentary Val.
Val both underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy, as well as a tracheotomy, which damaged his vocal cords. “I obviously sounded much worse than I do,” Hollywood idol said in the documentary.
He added: “I can’t speak without inserting this hole (in his throat). Kilmer was born in Los Angeles on December 31, 1959, in real estate developer Eugene and housewife Gladys.
Between three sons, he attended Chatsworth High School with Kevin Spacey and Mare Winningham. At the age of 17, he became Juilliard’s youngest man.
