A security guard was reportedly killed by the supposed Herdez people on Friday night, the Otobe Dam in the Otokepo local government area of Benue State.

Naija News The latest development is a disturbing pattern of violence in the Otukpo area over the past few weeks.

At the time of this report, the identity of the deceased guard has not been disclosed, nor has there been arrests related to the incident.

Members representing the Otukpo/AKPA state constituency in Benue State Capitol, Angbo Kennedyconfirm the attack and stress the urgent need for intervention to prevent further violence.

He said “It’s getting too much; the herders killed a guard at Otoby Dam tonight. Please pay attention to each other. We must turn to self-help.”

Residents urged the Benue State Government and security forces to strengthen monitoring and increase the presence of personnel in rural hotspots, especially near critical infrastructure such as Otobi Dam.

The events in Otobi are reminiscent of early violence in the Okpomaju, Okete and ASA communities, and this year’s events in the Otukpo local government area have resulted in multiple deaths and displacement of many people.

Just yesterday, armed attackers caught a bus of passengers in a link to Benue, killing two people and kidnapped 13 others.
