Former Oyo Governor Olunloyo is dead

The former governor of Oyo Governor Omolu Olunloyo has passed away a few days before his 90th birthday at the age of 89.

The older politician, a respected mathematician, engineer and technocrat, died in the early hours of Sunday, April 6.

His death was confirmed by a statement from barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi, who expressed family grief while commemorating Olunloyo’s service life. “We express our gratitude to the Almighty mood,” the statement reads. “We declare the glory of former Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo.

Olunloyo has the Chief Champions of Oyo’s Balogun and Ife’s Otun Bobasewa, and his contribution to academia and public service has been widely recognized. He served as the first president of Ibadan Polytechnic and Kwara State Polytechnic Institute and held several prominent positions throughout his career.

“Dr. Olunloyo’s Oyo and Balogun of Otun Bobasewa are the first principals, Ibadan Polytechnic and the first principal, Kwara State Polytechnic, and other notable appointments,” the statement said.

“His long-term service record for the country and humanity is a pride for his family and colleagues, even if we have mastered this devastating [loss],” it added.

The family called for privacy during mourning. “The Olunloyo family will appreciate the understanding of the press and the public as they start working to give him a suitable funeral.”
