The Talaba State Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Child Development cooperates with the State Ban on Trafficking (NAPTIP) to rescue eight trafficked children from Minda Village, the Council of Labor’s local government.
Mrs. Mary Sinjen, Director of Women’s Affairs and Child Development in Talaba State, introduced reporters in Jalingo on Friday, and the children were reportedly deceived and taken to the Southeast state of Nigeria.
According to her, the children were trafficked to Aba, Onitsha and Imo countries, in the falsehood that they were orphans.
Authorities intercepted traffickers from Sadana Local Government Council Jemb, thwarting their illegal actions.
After extensive investigation, the rescued child was reunited with his biological parents in March 2025.
The victims confirmed that they were sold without the knowledge of their family.
She said the ministry’s rapid intervention and NAPTIP ensured the safe return of eight children to Talaba.
The principal suspect (determined as Patient Lady) and several accomplices were arrested and are currently in custody as legal proceedings continue.
According to the Commissioner, efforts are still being made to find and rescue the remaining trafficked children.
Condemning the bill, Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas reiterated his commitment to protecting vulnerable children across the state.
Meanwhile, Taraga authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that protecting children is a collective responsibility.
