Nigeria News Nalin The crisis in Rivers State seems far from reaching as Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s youth commissioner Chisom Gbali claimed that intentional efforts were being made to expand the state’s emergency rules.
In an interview with Arisetv, Gbali accused the Federal Capital Territory Minister (FCT), Nyesom Wike and his planned allies to undermine the government and justify the extension of the emergency rules.
He also criticized President Bora Tinub’s intervention in the matter, questioning the reasons behind the urgent announcement when the country is largely maintaining peace.
“There is a plan to expand it (refer to the emergency rules). Before the end of six months, they want to incite the question that would cause the president to raise another statement. Of course, you know if there is any statement, it calls for the government to end.”
Gbali also points to subtle political strategies that point to actions designed to undermine governance.
He added: “Politically, we call it body language. You’ll find that if you learn body language, it’s the plan – they put aside their idle projects and wanted to design budgets. But you know that people sent to build peace even want to install only administrators at the local government level.”
The Commissioner directly accused the federal capital’s territorial minister and former river governor Nyesom Wike of orchestrating the destruction.
He claimed: “The former governor is the FCT minister and his accomplices – the member of parliament, the local president, whose tenure has gone through the past – and is the person I’m talking about. Because they are not on the achievements of the governor, they want to distort the government.”
Gbali further criticized President Bola Tinubu for his involvement in the crisis, believing that national priorities were overlooked by the political action in River State.
“All of these issues are for 2027 and we are very surprised that his Excellency will intervene in such issues when there are more burning issues,” he said.
He questioned the reasons behind the announcement of an emergency in Rivers State, while other states facing serious security threats remain unaffected.
“People die every day in the Plateau state, but there is no emergency. But in Rivers, there is an emergency when none of us are injured. In Rivers, everyone is performing their duties, which is why everyone is calling on the president to revoke his decision,” he concluded.
