The football world is following former Colombia International former Jorge Bolano De, 47.
Local media confirmed Bolano’s death on Sunday, April 6. He lives in Catuta, Colombia.
According to Bogota newspaper timeformer Parma, Modena, Lex and Sampdoria midfielder suffered from heart disease while attending a relative’s birthday party.
He was taken to a nearby clinic but later passed.
“We express our sincere condolences to family and loved ones Jorge Eladio Bolano Correa, a former Colombian men’s national team player, professional football player and coach who died on Sunday, April 6 in the city of Cucuta.
“Borano’s death left a blank in the hearts of those who knew and admired him. His legacy as a football player and coach will continue to honor Colombia sport.
“In its engagement with the Executive Committee, led by President Ramon Jesurun, the FCF provides prayers for his eternal rest and sends power to his family during this sad time.”
Bolano won 36 blocks for Colombia and was part of their 1998 World Cup roster, but spent most of his career abroad in Italy.
He spent eight years in Parma, two of which saw loan spells in Sampdoria and Leece and helped the club win the Italian Coppa Italia in 2002, their last major honor to date.
His former teammate Gianluigi Buffon called him “an unforgettable friend and teammate”.
“Jorge is an unforgettable friend and teammate, constantly in a dressing room of extraordinary champions,” his statement said.
“We won the match together in the golden age of the great Parma.
“On the court, he fought without avoiding himself, and on the court, I remember his kindness and humanity affectionately, making him a role model for everyone.
“We will always take you with you, rest, my friend.”
Parma also paid tribute to their former midfielder on social media.
“Today, the entire Palma Calcium has expressed condolences to Jorge Bolano’s family, who is 47 years old, leaving an irreplaceable gap.
Goodbye Jorge. Forever gialloblu,” said the Serie A side.
