River police deny using tear gas on protesters, saying dispersion is unfriendly

Rivers State Police Command said “false” news reports said some of its police officers opened fire on protesters and used tear gas to disperse tear gas near the federal secretariat on Abali Park and ABA Road on Monday, April 7, 2025.

The statement from the headquarters spokesman SP Grace Iringe-Koko said the report was unfounded. According to her, after receiving intelligence about the protests, his officers quickly deployed to the designated location.

“When arriving, a group of wrongdoing was observed to participate in criminal acts, including theft of cell phones and other valuables from the unsuspecting public. Our operators responded quickly and dispersed the individual.

This unfounded story seems to be a deliberate fabrication of a prank maker trying to incite public anxiety and create unnecessary tensions within the state. We urge the public to ignore such unfounded claims and keep them safe. ”She said

The police image maker added that it condemned the act of misinformation and warned individuals or groups to stop immediately behind this false spread.

“Disse of unverified and misleading information poses a serious threat to public peace and security. We reaffirm our strong commitment to protect life and property throughout the River State in a professional, legal and community-friendly manner. The public is encouraged to contact the police through our dedicated contact line to file a complaint or report any suspicious activity or behavior. ”
