Officials from Nigerian police force dispersed protesters with tear gas in the Metama area of Abuja.
Protesters gathered on Monday, April 7, scattered in different directions as tear gas tanks were fired in the middle of them.
The protests are part of a national demonstration led by a leading movement and other civil society organizations.
The organizers raised concerns about alleged abuse of the Cyber Crime Act, the country’s growing economic hardship and what they call a “state of emergency” in the River State.
The protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “Stop Repression” and “Let’s Breathe.”
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore also attended the protest.
