A woman on X responds to the idea that a child comes from the father’s residence, not the father and mother’s origin.
She shared that she sees herself as Yoruba, and her name reflects that.
But when her school called on her to attend the event on behalf of the school, the state refused to accept her as a representative because they found out that her mother was Igbo.
She said she ended up choosing a student to represent the school from another Southwest state, rather than choosing her father who came from the state to hold the event.
She explained that the incident caused her to change the middle name to Igbo’s name to reflect her legacy.
She summed up her post, writing: “I am just the family of those who see me as a family.”
