A 13-year-old boy from Mpumalanga, South Africa, shot his 15-year-old cousin in the cheek on Saturday, April 6, and was charged with attempts to commit Murd3R.
According to the South African Police Department, the incident happened when the teenager was using a gun he grabbed from his father’s safe.
Police spokesman Lieutenant Jabu Ndubane confirmed the boy stole the security key before entering the gun. “When the unfortunate incident happened, the suspect was fired, and the gun was sent out and hit his cousin. After that, the victim was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. At the same time, the suspect was taken to the police station.”
After the incident, the boy’s father was also accused of negligent driving a firearm. Authorities stressed the importance of protecting firearms, especially in families with children.
The injured cousin is currently undergoing medical treatment and the defendant minor has been released as custody of his parents. He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday to face charges of murder.
