The Lagos State Traffic Authority warns that eating or smoking while driving may put motorists in jail.
Lastma said that smoking, eating or drinking while driving is a punishment offence under the Lagos State Transportation Department Reform Act of 2018.
This was revealed in a post shared on its official X handle on Wednesday, April 9.
“Under the 2018 Lagos State Transportation Department Reform Act, smoking, drinking and eating while driving is a crime.”
The agency notes that the law aims to ensure safety on the road by preventing distracted driving.
Under the law, the vehicle of the offender is seized, faces three months in prison or sentenced to six months of community service, based on severity and judicial results.
It added: “Extra fine: seizure of the vehicle/three (3) months in prison or six (6) months of community service.”
